Middlesbrough crowned Final Third Development League Cup champions

5 August 2015

Middlesbrough lifted the Final Third Development League Cup on Tuesday night, after overcoming Port Vale in a penalty shoot-out.

With the scores at Vale Park tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes, the match was settled by penalties with Boro prevailing 4-2.

Middlesbrough took the lead in the first half courtesy of a fantastic Callum Cooke strike, but Vale fought back and equalised after 70 minutes - Mackenzie Faulkner grabbing the goal.

No-one could find a winner in the last 20 minutes of the game, meaning the Final would be decided from 12 yards.

Vale, who clinched the Final Third Development League West Division back in April, saw efforts from Achille Campion and Ryan Lloyd strike the woodwork, and Boro could begin their celebrations thanks to successful spot-kicks from Bryn Morris, Jordan Jones, Harry Chapman and Bradley Fewster.
