Head-to-head

This fixture is the first time that QPR and Cardiff have locked horns for more than four years, with both clubs having avoided one another due to alternate stints in the Premier League.

Their matches usually make for a tight affair, with only three of their last 16 clashes being decided by more than one goal.

QPR edge the overall head-to-head standings with 32 wins to Cardiff's 25, with 12 draws also having taken place since the clubs were first introduced in 1931.

The meeting will be the first since QPR's promotion-winning 2010/11 season, when they beat the Bluebirds 2-1 at home before drawing the return game 2-2 at the Cardiff City Stadium.

In need of a win

Both sides failed to win on the opening weekend of Sky Bet Championship action, with QPR losing 2-0 away at Charlton Athletic and Cardiff drawing 1-1 at home to Fulham.

The pair did prove their winning credentials in midweek, however, in the Capital One Cup. The Rs recorded a convincing triumph at Huish Park against Yeovil Town, while Russell Slade's side defeated AFC Wimbledon 1-0, courtesy of a second goal in as many games from Craig Noone.
