21 August 2015

Draw specialists

Leeds have drawn in each and every one of their three Sky Bet Championship encounters so far this term, with new manager Uwe Rosler still in search of his maiden victory.

The Whites have been denied the three points in two of those fixtures courtesy of late comebacks, against Burnley on the opening day and Bristol City in midweek, when the Robins netted twice in as many minutes to steal a point.

They also drew in 90 minutes with Doncaster Rovers in the Capital One Cup - subsequently being knocked out on penalties - meaning they've drawn their last five in all competitions going back to the end of last season, a run they've not endured since 1997.

Should Leeds fail to secure a victory on Saturday, it will mean seven games without a win at Elland Road, a figure that would bring them close to another unwanted record from 1997, when they went eight without one.

The visitors

Sheffield Wednesday have posted a win this season, but just the one, courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Bristol City on opening weekend.

Since then, they've lost away to Ipswich Town and drawn at home to Reading, when they scored a last-gasp equaliser through Modou Sougou.

The Owls have recorded just one triumph on Leeds' patch since the turn of the millennium, in the 2006/07 season, when Marcus Tudgay, Chris Brunt and Jermaine Johnson were the goalscorers in a 3-2 result.

A regular pick

Leeds United versus Sheffield Wednesday is a game that has been selected for live coverage by Sky Sports in both of the last two seasons.

The 2014/15 campaign saw the October clash end in a 1-1 draw after goals from the Owls’ Chris Maguire and Leeds' Giuseppe Bellusci.

Ten months prior to that, in 2013/14, an even more memorable screening took place, as Wednesday completed a demolition job over their Yorkshire opposition, winning 6-0 at Hillsborough.
