The Football League weekend kicks off with Birmingham City’s match against Derby County on Friday 21st August. The game, which will be screened live on Sky Sports from 7:30pm, is the curtain-raiser ahead of a busy weekend in the Sky Bet Championship, with the new season now in full flow.
How’s the season started?
Birmingham City were scheduled to play a midweek game against Brentford, but with the pitch being relayed at Griffin Park, they are now a game behind the rest of the division.
That hasn’t stopped the Blues from being perched in the upper echelons of the early Championship table, though, and they host Derby boasting an unbeaten record in all competitions so far.
Gary Rowett’s side won 2-1 against Reading and drew 2-2 with Burnley in the league, and they progressed in the Capital One Cup by beating Bristol City 2-1.
Derby, meanwhile, are still looking for their first win under new boss Paul Clement.
The Rams have started their league season off with a trio of draws – against Bolton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic and Middlesbrough – but Clement insists that their first three-point haul is just around the corner.

The two sides have been fairly evenly matched throughout history in this frequently played fixture.
Derby have won 41 of the 113 previous meetings, with Birmingham having been able to celebrate 39 times.
Their most recent contest came in March 2015, with the two teams drawing 2-2, but Derby’s visit to St. Andrews last term will live long in the memory.
The Rams demolished Birmingham 4-0, with Jordon Ibe, Chris Martin, Craig Forsyth and Johnny Russell getting on the scoresheet.
