Charlton Athletic head coach Guy Luzon hailed his side's 2-0 opening-day victory against Queens Park Rangers as “the perfect start” to the Sky Bet Championship season.
Half-time substitute Tony Watt bagged the opener early in the 52nd minute before Morgan Fox wrapped up the points with a 20-yard effort. And Luzon couldn't hide his delight in his post-match press conference at The Valley.
“It was the perfect start,” Luzon said, to the club's official website.
“For our first game, a London derby, it was great for our team and supporters. There was an unbelievable atmosphere at times in the stadium today as well.
“Some players made their Championship debuts and that is great for their confidence because we are a new team. There is still room for us to improve and I’m sure that we will get better and better as the games come.”
Luzon introduced front man Watt at the interval and his decision immediately paid dividends with the former Celtic man finding the net.
And the head coach praised the striker for his contribution, and also the way he reacted to not being in the starting line-up.
Luzon added: “Tony changed the game and brought us some bravery in the attack he showed a lot of quality and I am very happy for him. He didn’t start the game but I know that he has the quality to change the game.
“He accepted my decision - he had to. When the coach make a decision that he thinks will benefit the team then he you have to accept it as a player, and he did. When he came on, he gave his maximum and helped us to win the game.”
