Ipswich Town's Freddie Sears pleased to cap 'perfect' day with a goal against Burnley

19 August 2015

Ipswich Town striker Freddie Sears says he was delighted to score on the same day that he penned a new deal at Portman Road.

The 22-year-old extended his stay at the club until 2019 on Tuesday, just hours before netting the first goal in a 2-0 win at home to Burnley.

If a goal and a new contract wasn't enough, the result sent the Tractor Boys to the top of the Sky Bet Championship, meaning it was a near-perfect day for Sears.

“Signing a new deal before the game was nice but the main thing was winning tonight and we’re now top of the league,” the striker told Ipswich Player HD.

“It’s good to get the contract signed, as we’ve been in talks for a while now. It’s nice to get my future sorted and commit myself to such a fantastic club, so I’m delighted.

“It’s the perfect night really. Signing a new deal, winning the game, scoring a goal and moving top of the league – it doesn’t get much better than that.

“The lads all played their part and it’s a happy dressing room. The work starts again now though and we will all be focusing on another tough game against Preston on Saturday.”
