Hartlepool United need to make history to maintain winning streak

21 August 2015

Hartlepool United will meet Stevenage on Saturday riding the crest of a wave, but they'll have to make history to continue their winning start.

Ronnie Moore’s side have played four games in all competitions and won them all, meaning that they currently sit in the Sky Bet League 2 automatic promotion spaces and are able to celebrate progressing to Round 2 of the Capital One Cup.

To extend their winning streak to five, they will have defy history, though, as they have never previously been triumphant over their weekend opponents Stevenage.

United have met Boro seven times in history, but they have never been able to beat them – with the Hertfordshire-based side appearing to be a tricky obstacle to overcome.

That stat may provide Stevenage with some optimism, but their form this campaign has been less positive.

Teddy Sheringham is still looking for his first win since taking charge, with a solitary point all his side have been able to collect over the start of the campaign.

Potent Paynter

If Stevenage are to maintain their unbeaten stretch against Hartlepool then it will be crucial for them to stop Billy Paynter.

The 31-year-old striker joined the Pools this summer, and he has hit the ground running with three goals in his first four games after Moore handed him the captain’s armband.
