Fleetwood Town boss Graham Alexander says that he is hoping for a lengthy run in this season’s Capital One Cup, as he prepares his team for their Round 1 match against Hartlepool United. The Cod Army exited the competition at the earliest stage last season, slipping to defeat against Rotherham United.
Alexander has plans on a much longer stay in the competition this time around, but is under no illusions as to how tough their game against Hartlepool will be.
"We want to have a cup run this season. We want to get as far as we can in this competition and we want to turn winning into a habit,” the manager, who led Fleetwood to a 1-1 draw with Southend United on the opening day of The Football League season, said to the club’s official site.
"We take every game as serious as the last. We will be preparing for Tuesday’s game as much as we did for the Southend match.
"We will be putting out a team that we expect to win the game. We know it will be tough. Hartlepool had a fantastic end to last season and Ronnie Moore is a very experienced manager.
"We will have to be as good as we were against Southend if we are going to get anything out of the match and advance to the second round."
