Sam Collins praised Hartlepool United's team performance in their come-from-behind success at York City in Sky Bet League 2's Match Round 2.The assistant manager has been in the dugout in place of boss Ronnie Moore, whose daughter was taking ill during a family holiday, and he oversaw Pools' 2-1 win at Bootham Crescent.
Reece Thompson put the hosts 1-0 up midway through the second half but Billy Paynter levelled for Pools before Michael Woods netted the winner 10 minutes from time.
The result, which was achieved in front of a near-2,000 travelling support, maintained the club's 100 per cent start to the new Sky Bet League 2 campaign.
“I thought the lads were fantastic,” Collins told the club's official website.
“We probably didn’t play as well as we could have apart from little moments where we got it down, played and opened them up but what we needed to do today away from home was dig in.
GREAT RESULT PROUD OF ALL MY STAFF AND PLAYERS , Charlotte thanks u all❤️❤️⚽️👍🙏— ronnie moore (@ronniemoore53) August 15, 2015
“We did that and even though we went a goal down, we showed the character to come back and I thought it was fantastic in terms of effort, determination and working hard so to get the win was the icing on the cake.
“York were a bit more direct than what we have come up against before but apart from the goal we handled that really well and it was another all-round team performance.
“It’s not about individuals; they’re all working hard, digging in and fighting for each other – and that’s what it’s going to take if we want to win games like these and have a good season.”
