"It's been a really tough start with seven games in the first three weeks especially with all the injuries we've had so I am really pleased to get off the mark,” the manager reflected.
"It's hard to say what we did different because, apart from Port Vale last week, we haven't been playing too badly.
"But there was a togetherness about the team and the first goal really helped to settle us down.
"Although it's the first league win, we've actually only had one defeat over 90 minutes in seven games so we haven't done that badly.
"I accept we have had too many draws but when we've got everyone fit and well I think we will really find our form.
"Fleetwood had scored eight goals in their last two games so I'm delighted to keep a clean sheet as well.
"But defending starts from the front and, in the first half, our front two were outstanding in that regard.
"As much as they had a fair amount of possession after the interval they didn't really hurt us and I think we were worth the win."
