Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov: “We were worth the win”

30 August 2015

Manager Paul Dickov was delighted after his Doncaster Rovers side clinched their first Sky Bet League 1 win of the season, against Fleetwood Town.

Rovers took the lead when James Coppinger headed home following a 17th-minute free-kick and Curtis Main made it 2-0 seven minutes later.

Prior to the win, Dickov’s men had shared the spoils on three occasions, and lost to 3-0 to Port Vale.

"It's been a really tough start with seven games in the first three weeks especially with all the injuries we've had so I am really pleased to get off the mark,” the manager reflected.

"It's hard to say what we did different because, apart from Port Vale last week, we haven't been playing too badly.

"But there was a togetherness about the team and the first goal really helped to settle us down.

"Although it's the first league win, we've actually only had one defeat over 90 minutes in seven games so we haven't done that badly.

"I accept we have had too many draws but when we've got everyone fit and well I think we will really find our form.

"Fleetwood had scored eight goals in their last two games so I'm delighted to keep a clean sheet as well.

"But defending starts from the front and, in the first half, our front two were outstanding in that regard.

"As much as they had a fair amount of possession after the interval they didn't really hurt us and I think we were worth the win."
