Sky Bet League 2 Match Round 2 will see the latest edition of the Dockyard Derby between Plymouth Argyle and Portsmouth take place.
It is a fixture that rarely fails to deliver entertainment, with only four goalless draws having occurred in the 56 meetings since 1921.The game marks the opening home match of the 2015/16 campaign for Argyle, with Home Park playing host to the clash at 3pm on Saturday.
Goals, goals, goals
The Dockyard Derby always brings goals, and it's been 34 years since the last 0-0 occurred in the fixture. Dominance in the match-up is also infrequent, with no side having registered a league double since the 1988/99 Division Two season, where it was Pompey who won both games.
In their last 10 outings, there have been three or more goals scored on nine of those occasions, with 12 strikes hitting the back of the net in each of the last three encounters.
Meetings: 56
Plymouth wins: 22
Portsmouth wins: 25
Draws: 9
Last time out
Last season it was a win apiece for the coastal rivals, as Plymouth took the spoils in a 3-0 success at Home Park courtesy of a Reuben Reid brace and a Lewis Alessandra strike.
Portsmouth edged a 2-1 result in the return game at Fratton Park in April, with goals from Jed Wallace and Ryan Taylor enough to fend off a late Oliver Lee volley.
Off the mark
Both clubs endured strong starts to the new Sky Bet League 2 campaign last weekend; Plymouth won 2-0 away at AFC Wimbledon and Portsmouth secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge, ensuring both sit in the top seven going into Match Round 2.
The pair were involved in Capital One Cup action in midweek, too, but suffered contrasting fortunes.
Argyle were ousted by a late Gillingham comeback, after Craig Tanner put them ahead with just 12 minutes of normal time remaining - Gills duo Bradley Dack and Jake Hessenthaler hit late goals to send the Sky Bet League 1 side into the Round 2 draw.
@CraigTanner27 Great strike! Hope to see more of that! 😀 Good luck against Pompey on Saturday. Big game for us fans #dockyardderby#pafc
