Chris Martin could make 100th start for Derby County against Middlesbrough

18 August 2015

Derby County striker Chris Martin could walk out for the 100th time in a Rams shirt when they take on Middlesbrough at the iPro Stadium on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old started his 99th game for the club during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic, marking the appearance with a goal in the 68th minute.

It was the 41st time Martin has hit the back of the net in The League for County, having been with the club since February 2013.

He was among the Sky Bet Championship's top scorers last season with 18 goals to his name, a feat made even more impressive after he missed a large chunk of the season through injury.

In need of a win

Martin and Derby are yet register victory this season, following two draws from two games at the beginning of the new campaign. The Rams were also defeated in the Capital One Cup by Portsmouth last Wednesday, meaning it’s not been an easy start to managerial life for Paul Clement.

They are also due a result against Boro, having not won, or even scored, in any of their last three meetings against them, and Martin is likely to be key to any success. Aitor Karanka's men completed the double over them last season, as Patrick Bamford inspired them to wins in both fixtures.

In fact, the last time Martin netted against Boro, they did go onto win, back in December 2013, when Conor Sammon was also on the scoresheet in a 2-1 triumph.

Boro of the mark

Middlesbrough, like Derby, also drew a blank in their opening fixture of the season against Preston North End, but they sparked into life on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers.

That followed another three-goal haul from midweek, when Oldham Athletic were the victims of a 3-1 scoreline in the Capital One Cup.
