Capital One Cup Round 2 review

Carlisle United caused the biggest shock of Round 2 in the Capital One Cup as they saw off Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Loftus Road in a pulsating round of action.

The Cumbrians are yet to win a league match this season but Jason Kennedy’s late goal secured their passage into Round 3, where they’ll face eight-time League Cup winners Liverpool.

The ball hit the back of the net 80 times in total on Tuesday night of Round 2 with five games ending 4-1, including Leicester City's success at Bury, which featured a debut hat-trick for Joe Dodoo.

It was also 4-1 at St James’ Park, where Newcastle United comfortably eased past Northampton Town, and Charlton Athletic hit four against Peterborough United.



Two games went all the way to penalties, with Stoke City overcoming Luton Town 8-7 on spot kicks live on Sky Sports, and West Bromwich Albion beating Port Vale 5-3 from 12 yards.

On Wednesday, Everton beat Barnsley 5-3 after extra-time in what was a pulsating encounter at Oakwell.
