Aitor Karanka heaps praise on Middlesbrough squad following win over Bolton Wanderers

17 August 2015

Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka was left purring over his team's performance as they picked up their first three points of 2015/16.

Boro opened the season with a goalless draw at Preston North End, but they romped to victory at the Riverside in Match Round 2, and the Spanish boss couldn't pick a stand-out player from the win.

Diego Fabbrini fired the hosts into an early lead, before turning provider for Kike to add two more goals and make it 3-0 before the break – and that's how it finished.

“Diego Fabbrini played amazing, so did [Adam] Clayton, [Grant] Leadbitter – I can’t just say one player,” Karanka told the club's official website.

“But I am very happy with everything today. We have a much better squad than we had last season; I have a very good squad to choose from.

“It’s really difficult to pick the best 11, but I’m really pleased as I prefer to go into my office and have to pick 11 players from 23 very good players.

“Today it wasn’t just those who started, it was those who came on as well, like Adam Forshaw, [Christian] Stuani and David Nugent. All of them were brilliant and all of the players on the bench were supporting us.”
