Wycombe Wanderers look to end midweek misery in Sky Bet League 2

14 April 2015

Wycombe Wanderers enjoy Saturdays - they've lost just once in 31 outings on Saturdays in all competitions during the 2014/15 campaign, with a stunning win rate of 61 per cent (W19, D11, L1).

Compare that to the other six days of the week, when Gareth Ainsworth’s side have been defeated nine times in 15 games across four different competitions, with a win rate of just 20 per cent (W3, D3, L9).

Dear Tuesdays - whatever we've done to upset you, we need to talk. We have an important matchday on our hands! #WYCvEXE

In total, they’ve lost 10 games since the season started back in August - once on a Sunday, twice on a Monday, five Tuesday outings, one Friday match and only once on a Saturday.

Wycombe’s only Saturday defeat this season was at home to Newport County, on Valentine’s Day.

Quite why there is such a big discrepancy between the days of the week is anyone’s guess, but the Chairboys will feel their quota of Tuesday defeats has been hit ahead of tonight’s Sky Bet League 2 game with Exeter City.

And the promotion-hopefuls can be heartened that all three of their victories outside of a Saturday have come on a Tuesday, at Plymouth Argyle in September, and Tranmere Rovers and Luton Town in March.

Remarkably, that means that all of Wycombe’s home matches this season in all competitions that have been outside of a Saturday have ended in a draw or defeat (D2, L6),

However, that only shows how clinical the Buckinghamshire side, who sit third, have been on what seems to be their favourite day of the week, because a victory over the Grecians could take them seven points clear of the chasing pack in their quest for an automatic promotion place.
