Troy Deeney named Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month

10 April 2015

Watford striker Troy Deeney has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for March.

Five goals in five games could not have been more important to Watford’s automatic promotion push – none more so than his brace in the 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic that included a powerful flying header.

Watford manager Slavisa Jokanovic said: “All of England knows Watford have great strikers.

“Troy is a Premier League player and the question is, will we be a Premier League team together?

“Everyone knows we have good strikers. It is not only Troy; it is [Matej] Vydra, [Odion] Ighalo and [Fernando] Forestieri too.”

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Deeney has been in prolific form throughout the season, scoring 20 goals in total for the third season in a row – a feat never matched by a Watford player.

“Although there are no certainties in the Sky Bet Championship, if he and Odion Ighalo can keep up their fantastic scoring record for the home stretch, then Watford will have a real chance of automatic promotion.”

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “Deeney has been part of an electric Watford front line, which is the second highest scoring in the league.”

The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Head of Communications John Nagle; League Managers Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
