It’s the penultimate round of Sky Bet Championship fixtures this weekend and leaders Watford could secure promotion to the Premier League.
Slavisa Jokanovic’s side are the table-toppers after taking advantage of slip-ups from Bournemouth and Norwich City to return to the summit last week, by edging out Birmingham City 1-0.They have 85 points to their name, and should they record a victory away at Brighton & Hove Albion, and one of Bournemouth or Middlesbrough lose, and Norwich City fail to record victory, the Hornets will be promoted. A draw for their rivals would also leave them needing just a point on the final day to be sure of going up, providing they triumph on Saturday.
Bournemouth will need to bounce back from their 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday to keep their hopes of finishing in the automatic promotion places alive. The Cherries host Bolton Wanderers at the Goldsands Stadium on Monday in a game live on Sky Sports, and have the advantage of knowing the task ahead of them by kicking-off 48 hours later.
Middlesbrough, who kept themselves in the mix with last Friday’s 1-0 win at Norwich, go to Fulham, and can put the pressure on Bournemouth by moving into the top two with a win on Saturday afternoon.
Norwich are still lingering in the background on 82 points, but that loss to Boro has undoubtedly hampered their chances of earning promotion automatically. They will though, be ready to pounce on any dropped points from those above them, but need to claim three of their own away at relegation-threatened Rotherham United.
The Sky Bet Championship does drama better than any other league in the world – and you can rest assured that there will be more twists and turns left in the final two games.
