Sky Bet Championship promotion race: One year on

17 April 2015

Three games to go and four teams separated by one point - this year's Sky Bet Championship race for promotion is tighter than ever before.

Rewind to this stage last season. Leicester City had already clinched promotion, Burnley were eight points clear of third-placed Derby County and poised for a place in the Premier League, while the Foxes sat 20 points above Queens Park Rangers in fourth.

This campaign has continued to deliver, with the top four showing their class to pull away from the pack over recent weeks. Midweek results saw Bournemouth, Norwich City, Watford and Middlesbrough all pick up three points in their quest to lift the Sky Bet Championship title on 2nd May.

The Cherries and the Hornets are both at home this weekend, and will eagerly await the result of Norwich and Middlesbrough's Friday night clash, which is live on Sky Sports.

If the high-flying pair draw at Carrow Road, then it will provide both sides with a great chance to build up a lead with two games to go.

Bournemouth could potentially be three points clear of third by Saturday evening, which would be a huge advantage with two games to go considering their superior goal difference.

And speaking of goal difference, Slavisa Jokanovic's Watford only sit third due to being one goal worse off than Norwich, so they are in prime position to pounce should the Canaries slip up.

The top four of 2013/14 didn't change at all in the final weeks of the season – in fact, that was the order for the last five games.

But expect plenty of twists and turns in the final stages of 2014/15 – this one's going to the wire!
