Milton Keynes Dons are well on their way to a record-breaking season, but will it be enough to achieve promotion from Sky Bet League 1?
Dele Alli, who has been nominated for the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Year and The Football League Young Player of the Year, netted MK's 100th goal of the season during their 3-0 win over Fleetwood Town in midweek. That century has been reached over all competitions this term, but Alli's strike was the 84th time that the Dons have found the net in League 1 this season – equalling their record-high set in 2011/12.
With four games still remaining and his side eyeing up second-placed Preston North End for automatic promotion, Karl Robinson will certainly be hoping that record will be broken over the next three weeks, and that's not the only feat that could be beaten.
The Dons' defence has also been in fine fettle, keeping 23 clean sheets – 21 in their league campaign, alongside Capital One Cup shut-outs against Bradford City and Manchester United. That figure equals the one set in 2007/08, when MK secured a double by winning League 2 and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
Despite those record-equalling tallies, the Dons still trail Preston in the race for automatic promotion with just three games remaining.
The Lilywhites' 15-game unbeaten run means they are currently in the driving seat, three points above Robinson's side, while Swindon Town are just three further back with a game in-hand, however MK's goal difference is superior to both.
The stadiummk outfit have two home games in four days, kicking off with a visit from struggling Leyton Orient on Saturday afternoon. Records may well tumble, but it's automatic promotion that remains the aim.
