Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth has been named the Sky Bet League 2 Manager of the Month for March.Ainsworth made light of a difficult looking fixture list in March, which included games against promotion rivals Southend United, Shrewsbury Town and Luton Town, to inspire his team to 14 points from six unbeaten matches in the race the for Sky Bet League 2 title.
George Burley, who chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel, said: “Gareth’s battling qualities as a player are certainly inspiring his team to be promotion contenders.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Ainsworth’s Wycombe side had a fantastic March.
“Despite already losing twice in April, they are still looking good for an automatic promotion place – a testament to the brilliant season they have had.”
Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “Wycombe have done extremely well to keep pace with Burton and Shrewsbury in the League 2 promotion race with one of the smallest playing squads in The Football League.
“A large part of this is down to the astute business Gareth Ainsworth has done in the loan market, as well as fantastic man management which has galvanised his squad.”
The judging panel for the Sky Bet Manager of the Month is chaired by former Ipswich Town manager George Burley, along with Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson; League Managers’ Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
