David Flitcroft excited after Bury edge closer to automatic promotion places

20 April 2015

Bury manager David Flitcroft is happy his side started their important week with a victory after Ryan Lowe's header gave the Shakers a 1-0 win against Portsmouth.

Striker Lowe headed home Joe Riley's pinpoint cross from the right to leave the visitors two points behind third-placed Wycombe Wanderers.

Bury set a new club record of seven successive away wins and have now not conceded away from Gigg Lane in 10 hours.

A win against fifth-placed Southend United on Tuesday will fire the Shakers above Wycombe and into the automatic promotion places.

Flitcroft said: "I am excited for Tuesday night. It is a really big game and I'm excited for a really big crowd.

"We are happy to come from behind and catch up with the top three and I'm really happy with the way we have done that.

"To get that goal when we did today, we have done really really well. Sometimes you control it in possession and sometimes you control it out of possession.

"Today we did well out of possession and all we had to do was get the one goal at the end of the first half.

"It was good to get that goal as it could have been very different if we hadn't.

"It was an absolutely stunning bit of play."
