Change needed at Wigan Athletic – Chairman David Sharpe

7 April 2015

Wigan Athletic chairman David Sharpe said change was needed at Wigan Athletic after they dismissed Malky Mackay on Monday.

The news came after the Latics lost 2-0 at home to Derby County, a result that leaves them eight points from safety in the Sky Bet Championship with five games to go.

Mackay was appointed at Wigan in November but he only managed to secure 19 points from a possible 72, and failed to register a victory at the DW Stadium, which they haven't achieved since 30 August, 18 home outings ago.

In a statement on the club's website, chairman David Sharpe said: “This is a very difficult decision to make but I feel that for the long term future of the club, there needs to be a change now. I wish Malky all the best for the future.”
