Midfielder Adam Forshaw has completed his protracted transfer to Wigan Athletic from Brentford ahead of Monday night's deadline.
Last year's League One Player of the Year moves to the DW Stadium for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-year deal and reuniting with former Bees boss Uwe Rosler.
Forshaw has not played for Brentford this season, with the Sky Bet Championship newcomers angry his head had been turned by Latics earlier this summer.
Last week they confirmed they had accepted a bid for the 22-year-old - which they insist met their valuation and was above £3million. But it has taken another seven days for Wigan to agree all the finer points of Forshaw's move, with Everton also reportedly due a slice of the pie having had the midfielder on their books as a trainee.
Explaining the delay to Wigan's official website, Rosler said: "It has been technically a very challenging transfer and I would like to thank all the parties involved: Matthew Benham at Brentford for leading the negotiations from their end, Everton Football Club for the way they have helped, the Football League for all their help and guidance and to the legal teams involved for their hard work.
"Adam will be a big part of our future at this football club; he is the right age, with the right qualities and desire to progress here.
"He will take the Championship in his stride and, like all of our signings, we believe he has the potential to flourish in the Premier League as well."
Wigan lost Jordi Gomez to Sunderland over the summer while James McArthur is expected to join Crystal Palace on Monday, meaning Forshaw fills an area of need at the DW Stadium.
"I want to say that Adam was always my number-one target as a permanent replacement for Jordi Gomez," Rosler added.
"We are all therefore delighted that he is joining us.
"Of course he is a player I know well, I initially loaned him during my time at Brentford and he gained his first regular League football experience there under me.
"We bought him permanently and now I am very happy to sign, for a second time, a player who developed into the best player in League One last season.
"Our patience has been rewarded and we have got a fantastic young player at the right age and the right price for Wigan Athletic."
