Weekend wonder goals in The Football League

1 September 2014

Scunthorpe United secured their first win on their return to Sky Bet League 1 on Saturday, beating Walsall 2-1, and their two goals were memorable ones.

The Iron hadn't scored at Glanford Park in 2014/15, but if you're going to wait four home games to see a goal for your team, it better be worth the wait. Both were.

Hakeeb Adelakun opened the scoring for the Iron with a mazy run and low finish that went in off the post, before experienced winger Gary McSheffrey curled a stunning free-kick into the top corner.

It was goals galore at the Cherry Red Records Stadium in Sky Bet League 2, where Stevenage toppled hosts AFC Wimbledon 3-2. Young forward Cameron Lancaster hit the goal of the match, curling the ball in from a wide area.

The question is; did he mean it? The man himself says he did.

Dagenham & Redbridge's Abu Ogogo hit another Sky Bet League 2 stunner, at the Kassam Stadium against Oxford United.

The Daggers were 3-2 down when the ball sat up nicely for the 24-year-old and he looped it over Oxford goalkeeper George Long and into the net.
