Matt Hill may not play again for Tranmere until March after going under the knife to cure his Achilles injury

Matt Hill may not play again for Tranmere Rovers until March after going under the knife to cure his Achilles injury.

The defender, who only signed a full-time deal with Rovers recently after initially impressing on a non-trial basis, picked up the problem against Newport County earlier this month and is facing a lengthy period on the sidelines.

"I'm glad I've had the operation," he told the club's official website.

"It's all about forward thinking now and looking ahead to getting back in action, hopefully in five or six months.

"The surgeon was happy with the way the operation went. I've now got to put my foot up for a couple of weeks, and then I'll be in a boot for a couple of months after that.

"Then I'll be back with Gregg [Blundell, Tranmere physio] for my rehab on the road to recovery."
