Sky Bet League 2 round-up

16 September 2014

We take a look at the midweek action in Sky Bet League 2

Burton Albion's unbeaten start to the season came to an emphatic end as the Sky Bet League 2 leaders were crushed 3-0 at AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday night.

Albion had picked up six wins and a draw in this division, as well as knocking QPR and Wigan out of the Capital One Cup, but were brought down to earth by an Adebayo Akinfenwa brace and another strike from Matt Tubbs, who blotted his copybook by getting sent off late on.

Bury continued on a roll when coming from behind to beat Stevenage 2-1, with Ryan Lowe and Craig Jones on target, while late substitute Ryan Johnson saw red for the visitors.

Northampton Town enjoyed a 5-1 thrashing of Hartlepool United at Sixfields Stadium, where Marc Richards and Kaid Mohamed both bagged a brace for the Cobblers and Lawson D'Ath also struck.

James Dunne, Jed Wallace and Andy Barcham hit the target for Portsmouth in a 3-0 defeat of Dagenham & Redbridge, who had Andre Boucard dismissed.

Things go from bad to worse for basement dwellers Carlisle United, who lost out to a Jermaine Grandison goal at Shrewsbury Town and had centre-half and joint-caretaker boss Paul Thirlwell sent off.

Graham Cummins and Alex Nicholls scored as Exeter City came from behind to prevail 2-1 at Cambridge United, while Paul Hayes broke the deadlock as Wycombe won 1-0 at Plymouth.

Conor Clifford scored as Southend took advantage of Jason Taylor's dismissal to win 1-0 at Cheltenham Town and Mansfield Town beat Morecambe by the same scoreline thanks to a last-minute Alex Fisher goal.

Danny Hylton, Michael Collins and Tyrone Bennett netted as Oxford won 3-1 against Accrington Stanley, who had James Gray sent off, while Tranmere Rovers drew 0-0 with Newport County and there was another goalless stalemate in the game between York City and Luton Town.
