Sheffield Wednesday swoop for Royston Drenthe

1 September 2014

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Reading winger Royston Drenthe on loan until January.

The 27-year-old Dutchman, who moved from Feyenoord to Real Madrid for £11.6million seven years ago, is scheduled to return to Reading on 2nd January.

Drenthe will be eligible for the Owls when they take on Bolton at the Reebok Stadium after the international break on 13th September.

The Holland Under-21 international progressed through Feyenoord's academy and made 37 appearances for the Dutch side's first team before sealing a big-money transfer to Real Madrid in 2007.

He then had loan spells at Spanish side Hercules and Everton and a short spell with Russian side Alania Vladikavkaz where he scored three times in six appearances.

Drenthe returned to England when signing a permanent contract at Reading in June 2013.

He has made a total of 24 appearances for Reading but has yet to feature for Nigel Adkins' side this season.
