Nottingham Forest fans commemorate Brian Clough

19 September 2014

Capital One is giving away 1,000 iconic green jumpers to help Nottingham Forest fans commemorate Brian Clough

Football legend Brian Clough will be honoured in Nottingham Forest’s Capital One Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday 24th September when 1,000 fans will be given replicas of his famous fashion accessory - a green round neck jumper - to wear at the fixture.

Capital One, the Nottingham-based credit card company and League Cup sponsor, will be handing out the iconic jumpers to all fans travelling on the official supporters’ coaches to White Hart Lane. A limited number will also be given to Forest fans at the stadium on a first-come first-served basis.

Clough, one of football’s most loved and eccentric characters, passed away on 20th September 2004. The gesture means Nottingham Forest fans will be able to continue to commemorate their former manager whose successes at the club included winning the European Cup twice, League Championship once and the League Cup an extraordinary four times.

John McGovern, Nottingham Forest club ambassador, said: “Brian was simply the best. There will never ever be anyone in football quite like Brian again. He is synonymous with Nottingham Forest and to see 1,000 Forest fans in green jumpers at such a high profile game will be a fantastic way to mark the anniversary.”

Jason Carr, head of sponsorship at Capital One, said: “As a Nottingham-based company and sponsor of the Capital One Cup we know what Brian Clough means to the City of Nottingham. It is important for us to help Nottingham Forest fans show their support for such an integral individual in their club’s history and we hope that the green jumpers will be a great nod of respect to him.”
