Tyrone Mings named Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month

10 October 2014

Ipswich Town full-back Tyrone Mings has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for September.

Mings, 21, is showing terrific athleticism and surging forward at every opportunity. His tackling is improving almost by the match and his assists were vital against Brighton & Hove Albion and Wigan Athletic.

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy said: “Tyrone has been excellent for us.

“Crystal Palace made a big offer for him before the transfer window closed but we want him here for the long term.

“He’s a young, exciting player who has made a lot of progress in his time here and it’s great to see that his form has been noticed with this award.

“We’ve acknowledged that as a club too, which is why we offered him a long term deal. He’s done great.”

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “This flying full-back is showing, at 21, an athleticism and attitude that is great see.

“He can defend and he can create for his team. No wonder top-flight clubs were courting him.”

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “Mings impressed as the Tractor Boys kept three clean sheets in five games.

“His best performance was in the 2-0 win over Rotherham United where we had the clean sheet at 6/4.”

The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Head of Communications John Nagle; League Managers Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
