Swindon Town's Mark Cooper rues defensive errors

26 October 2014

Swindon Town manager Mark Cooper was left ruing costly defensive errors after his side twice relinquished the lead in a 2-2 draw against Colchester United.

A Michael Smith brace was not enough for the Robins to grab all three points as his strikes were cancelled out by goals from Rhys Healey and Gavin Massey.

Three of the four goals came within a crazy six-minute spell just after half-time and Cooper was not impressed.

He said: "We have given away two goals again at home. We should not be having to score three to win a game at home.

"We have three 19-year-old defenders and they are going to make mistakes. We have to stick with them, they are learning.

"We were 1-0 up at half-time so obviously we had to make sure we start well, not give them anything in the second half. But within a minute or so, it is 1-1.

"The second goal, a long ball over the top, catches us out. We have got some work to do with the boys, but it is all we have worked on for the last couple of days."
