Rudy Gestede injury blow for Blackburn Rovers

1 October 2014

Blackburn Rovers' miserable Tuesday night at Rotherham was further soured by another injury to striker Rudy Gestede.

Rovers were beaten 2-0 at New York Stadium against the club that manager Gary Bowyer used to play for, and they may now be without five-goal Gestede until after the international break.

Gestede pulled up with a hamstring problem just over half-an-hour into the defeat and Blackburn could now be missing as many as nine first-team players against Huddersfield this weekend.

"We lost Alex Baptiste on Saturday, then we lost Tom Cairney on the morning of the game, and now Rudy," Bowyer said on the club's official website.

"We'll assess that and see where we are in the morning. I'm sure he'll get scanned and the medical staff will work as hard as they do to try and get him on the pitch for Saturday.

"But if there is any slight doubt then we'd obviously err on the side of caution because you've got the international break."

Corry Evans accrued his fifth yellow card meaning he will now serve a one-match suspension while David Dunn (knee), Jason Lowe (ankle), Paul Robinson (knee) and Chris Brown (knee) are all definitely out.

Alex Baptiste (calf) and Tom Cairney (groin) are doubtful, and Tommy Spurr only played his first 45 minutes of the season for the club's Under-21s on Monday following his groin problem.
