Notts County response leaves Shaun Derry overjoyed

22 October 2014

Notts County boss Shaun Derry was overjoyed with his side's second-half display at Barnsley after they came back from two goals down to win 3-2.

Goals from Devante Cole and Conor Hourihane put the hosts in control early on before Garry Thompson pulled a goal back with a superb long-range effort.

Ryan Williams went close to restoring Barnsley's two-goal advantage before the break with a low shot which saw the ball come back off a post.

Michael Petrasso then provided a match-winning contribution, meeting Thompson's cross with a close-range header to equalise and scoring a 71st-minute winner after finding a way through the home defence.

Derry said: "It was an absolutely superb second-half display. To a man, they were brilliant.

"It was a poor performance from us in the first half but it was the polar opposite in the second half.

"There was a lot of soul searching in the dressing room at half-time because it had been a horrible performance.

"We could have been five down. We absolutely got away with it, there's no doubt about that. Then there was only one team in the second half.

"Everybody let themselves down in the first half and Michael [Petrasso] was one of them. We tweaked it a little in the second half and put Michael out on the left. It was an unbelievable performance from him. I love watching him.

"Zeli [Ismail] was also fantastic and only overshadowed by Michael because of his goals.  Wingers have got to work hard for me and that's what Michael and Zeli did."
