In pictures: Watford v Brentford

1 October 2014

New Watford head coach Billy McKinlay had the perfect start to life at Vicarage Road as the Hornets beat Brentford 2-1 last night.

Watford's Odion Ighalo opened the scoring in the first half when he followed up his own saved penalty, but Jonathan Douglas drew the visiting Bees level little more than ten minutes into the second period. The difference was a fine strike by Matej Vydra which sealed three point for the home side and a dream start for McKinlay.

Speaking to official club website after the match, the new Watford boss said: "It's great to get that first win on the board but I think it's more testament to them [the players] - and the existing staff here at the club - that they've been delivering results despite a fair bit of change since the start of the season.

"There's plenty of things I saw that will require fine-tuning over the coming weeks but what pleased me the most was the players' spirit and application."
