Wolverhampton Wanderers supporter Clive Smith has been named the Sky Bet Championship Fan of the Month for September.
Clive competed in the Men’s Hand Bike – Time Trial – IHB2 at the Invictus Games at the Olympic Park in September after losing both legs serving in Afghanistan in 2010, whilst serving as a Sapper in the 33 Engineer Regiment. He took up Hand Bike in February this year so Clive was delighted to finish fourth at the Games in his first competitive race.
He said: “It was absolutely brilliant to compete in the Games. It was such a strong field and I was a bit disappointed to just miss out on the top three.
“But the experience of being there and competing was unbelievable.
“It is an honour to win the Sky Bet Fan of the Month award – thousands of fans travel up and down the country, week-in week-out, so to be nominated and win it is brilliant.”
Wolves midfielder Tommy Rowe said: “It was great to meet Clive and congratulate him on becoming the Sky Bet Championship Fan of the Month.
“I was at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games, and it was a privilege to see all the former servicemen and women, who have overcome so many challenges, compete against each other.
“Clive told me it was four years to the day since he suffered such devastating injuries, and yet he has somehow managed to turn that into a positive.
“It is difficult to imagine there will be a more deserving winner of the award throughout the season.”
