Sheffield United have agreed a deal to re-sign Crystal Palace defender Paddy McCarthy on loan until 28th December.
The 31-year-old's initial month-long stay at Bramall Lane, where he made five appearances, ended after the 1-0 defeat to South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley nearly a fortnight ago, but Palace boss Neil Warnock has allowed an extension until the end of the year.McCarthy will rejoin his Blades team-mates on Friday and could be thrown straight into the side to take on Doncaster on Saturday.
"Paddy will be back in on Friday, Palace didn't want him to play in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy," Clough said ahead of Wednesday's Football League Trophy visit to Walsall. "If the Doncaster game was called off he would have played as they didn't want him to have no game for three weeks.
"All the paperwork is done and he will be rejoining us for training on Friday with a view to playing on Saturday.
"We keep him until December 28, which is brilliant, it concludes the league programme this year, Palace want him back for the FA Cup on January 3 so that is as far as we could take it.
"We are delighted to have him for that length of time and we are very grateful to Crystal Palace and Neil for doing it.
"We haven't discussed an extension yet, we have gone to December 28 and we'll see how it goes.
"A lot will depend on Paddy and Crystal Palace, he does live in south London with his family.
"He enjoys playing football, though, and I think he has enjoyed his time here so far."
