A goal-crazy week in the Final Third Development League saw the ball hit the back of the net 31 times over seven matches, with big wins for Bournemouth and Wigan Athletic.Final Third Development League – East Division
Doncaster Rovers are the new leaders of the East Division after a 2-1 victory against Rotherham United.
The two teams were locked on six points going into the match but goals from Jack McKay and Liam Mandeville gave Rob Jones' side the victory and that moved them clear of the Millers and ahead of Scunthorpe at the summit.
Final Third Development League – South Division
There was an 11-goal thriller on the South Coast, where Bournemouth saw off Cambridge United 8-3 in the South Division.
Jayden Stockley and Harry Cornick struck hat-tricks for the Cherries at Canford Arena, while Josh Wakefield and substitute Aly Coulibaly were also on target.
The U's goals came from Bobby-Joe Taylor, James Akintunde and Liam Hurst, in a match that was only separated by a single goal at the interval.
Elsewhere, league leaders Luton were comfortable 2-0 winners at home to Leyton Orient.
In front of first-team manager John Still, who was watching from the stands, striker Charlie Walker bagged a brace for the Hatters to see them go clear at the top of the South Division.
Final Third Development League – West Division
In the West Division, there were home victories for Walsall and Wigan Athletic, and a surprise away success for Wrexham.
A youthful Walsall side saw off Shrewsbury 3-0 thanks to goals from Billy Clifford, Kieron Morris and Reece Flanagan, in a performance that Saddlers reserve team manager Richard O'Kelly described as 'an excellent afternoon's work'.
Wigan fielded seven first-team players in their 4-0 victory against Morecambe, in front of the club's new boss Malky Mackay. Andy Delort (2), Rob Kiernan and Jordan Flores hit the target for the Latics.
It was top against bottom in Staffordshire, where Wrexham ended Port Vale's 100 per cent record courtesy of a 2-0 triumph.
Robbie Evans' deflected effort gave the visitors the lead before Callum Terrell added a second four minutes into the second half, and that's how it stayed to move the Reds off the foot of the division.
Final Third Development League Cup – Northern Group C
In the only Cup game of the week Gateshead ran out 4-2 winners against Scunthorpe United in the North East.
The hosts twice took the lead through Jon Shaw and Lewis Guy, only to be pegged back by Kyle Wootton and Curtis Bateson, before goals from Rob Ramshaw and Ryan Wilson secured the victory for the Heed.
