AFC Wimbledon named Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Team of the Round

10 November 2014

AFC Wimbledon have been named the Johnstone's Paint Team of the Round for their 3-2 victory against Milton Keynes Dons in October.

Neal Ardley’s men twice found themselves trailing to the Dons, but goals from Ade Azeez, Sean Rigg and Adebayo Akinfenwa turned the Round 2 tie on its head.

As well as winning a trophy for their performance, Wimbledon will also receive a prize of Johnstone’s Paint product to use on a club project.

Delighted Wimbledon manager Ardley said: “It was a big win and the manner of the victory – coming from behind away to a club in a division higher – made it all the more special.

“It was a terrific performance from the players and it’s a great feeling to win the Johnstone’s Paint Team of the Round award.

“It’s given everybody a lot of confidence, not only for the rest of the Sky Bet League 2 season but also to hopefully have a long run in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and push to go to Wembley.”

AFC Wimbledon will now be hoping to repeat their heroics as they prepare for another tough away tie this week, when they head to Bristol City in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Quarter-Final.

Ben Wilde, brand and sponsorship manager of Johnstone’s Paint, said: “There were a number of good performances in the Area Second Round matches but AFC Wimbledon’s result was the stand-out result.

“To go away to a team flying high in a division above is always a difficult tie but they responded very well and thoroughly deserved the award.”

Johnstone’s Paint is in its ninth season of bringing colour to the beautiful game through its sponsorship of the Football League Trophy.
