Tranmere Rovers have offered five players new contracts and told Ian Goodison, Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and Callum Morris they can leave.
Goodison, 41, has been with Rovers since 2004, yet will unsurprisingly head for the exit door as the club prepare for a campaign in Sky Bet League 2 following relegation.
They are, though, determined to keep a trio of midfielders in Jason Koumas, Steve Jennings and James Wallace, plus defender Ash Taylor and goalkeeper Jason Mooney, all of whom will be offered fresh terms.
Football operations director and club secretary Mick Horton told the club's official website: "The rebuilding process has begun already and it's important we try to keep hold of our best players for next season.
"It's also vital we recruit the right players and work in that area is already underway.
"We'll be doing everything we can to bring the right players to the club over the summer to give the fans a team they can be proud of."
Antonie Boland has already signed a one-year contract extension, while James Rowe put pen to paper on a similar deal last week.
Tranmere also confirmed they are in discussions with midfielder Joe Thompson, his medical team and the PFA regarding his future after he was diagnosed with cancer last year.
