Chesterfield have released four players from their Sky Bet League 2 title-winning squad and offered new deals to five other out-of-contract players.
Sam Togwell, Jamie Devitt, Matty Brown and Jacob Hazel have been told by Spireites boss Paul Cook that their futures lie away from the Proact Stadium.
Full-backs Nathan Smith and Ritchie Humphreys, midfielders Jay O'Shea and Sam Hird and striker Marc Richards are all currently considering the fresh terms put to them.
"All of the players have made a contribution and we would like to thank them and wish them the very best for the future," said Cook.
"Talks are now taking place with the players whose current deals are about to expire and we will know the outcome of those negotiations in due course."
Togwell made over 50 appearances for Chesterfield after joining the club two years ago. The 29-year-old had a loan spell with Wycombe towards the end of this season.
Fellow midfielder Devitt, 23, was signed last summer following a trial spell after being released by Hull. The winger made seven appearances for the Spireites and ended the campaign on loan at Morecambe.
Brown was signed from non-league Marine last summer following a successful trial. The central defender, 24, scored on his debut at home to Plymouth in December and was sent-off later in the same game, although the red card was subsequently rescinded on appeal.
Striker Hazel came through the youth ranks at the club and made a couple of first-team appearances. The 20-year-old had several spells out on loan this season, ending the campaign at FC United of Manchester.
