Tranmere Rovers' Evan Horwood makes Northampton Town move

24 March 2014

Northampton Town have added to their defensive ranks with the season-long loan signing of Tranmere Rovers' Evan Horwood.

A former Sheffield United youth product, Horwood has spent time at York, Carlisle and Hartlepool among others and should go straight into the Cobblers' matchday squad for their clash with AFC Wimbledon.

With fellow defender Joe Widdowson struggling with an ankle injury, Northampton boss Chris Wilder was keen to bolster his options at the back and is happy to add Horwood to his squad.

"I've known Evan for quite a while," Wilder told the club's official website.

"He's played the majority of his football in League One and he's a good player, an attacking full-back.

"He'll be a valuable addition to the squad for the run-in.

"We've got an in and out situation with Joe at the moment; he trained a couple of times before the Morecambe game and he's not quite right.

"With the transfer window closing we needed a bit of cover in that position and it also gives us the option to go to three at the back if we want to."
