Southend United have extended Sunderland defender John Egan's loan until the end of the current campaign.
The 21-year-old joined the club at the beginning of March and has played six times, scoring once.
Egan will remain at Roots Hall for the Sky Bet League Two play-offs if the Shrimpers secure a top-seven finish.
Boss Phil Brown told the club's official website: "John has done really well since coming to the club and alongside Jakub (Sokolik) they've helped keep three clean sheets in the last three games.
"If you had said six weeks ago we'd have two defenders keeping Luke Prosser out of the team I'd have said no chance.
"That's testament to the performances of John and Jakub and I'm delighted John will be with us until the end of the season now."
