Sammy Lee makes Brighton and Hove Albion U-turn

29 June 2014

Sammy Lee will join Southampton's coaching staff having made a surprising U-turn.

Brighton announced on Friday that the former Bolton manager would be reunited with former colleague Sami Hyypia as the Seagulls' new assistant manager, leaving his role as the Trotters head of academy coaching and development.

But a Bolton statement on Sunday morning confirmed that Lee, having agreed to join Hyypia at Brighton, will now move further down the south coast and work for the Saints.

"Bolton Wanderers can announce that Sammy Lee will now join Southampton," it read. "Lee had previously agreed to join Brighton & Hove Albion to work under new boss Sami Hyypia.

"However, Lee will now join the coaching staff at Premier League Southampton, working alongside their new manager Ronald Koeman."
