Football League fixture release day: How it will work

The footballing eyes of the world may be fixated on Brazil and the FIFA World Cup, but closer to home there will be plenty of anticipation amongst Football League supporters this week with the draw for Round 1 of the Capital One Cup taking place, before the fixtures for the 2014/15 season are released.

Read on below for all the information you will need to know ahead of this week's announcements.

The excitement will commence on Tuesday 17th June at 9:40am when the Capital One Cup First Round draw is announced on, on Twitter via @CapitalOne_Cup and on The Football League's official Facebook page.

The Round 1 draw is seeded based on the final league positions of teams in the 2013/14 season, and then split regionally between north and south. Click here to see the Round 1 seeding.

The Capital One Cup First Round matches will be played during the week commencing 11th August 2014. Click here to see some First Round thrillers from previous years.

Live broadcast slots have been identified for Monday 11th August and Wednesday 13th August and the matches will be selected after the Round 1 draw has been announced.

On Wednesday, Football League fans up and down the country can then start planning for the 2014/15 campaign when the fixtures are released.

The upcoming season will see plenty of key battles across all three divisions. East Anglian rivals Norwich City and Ipswich Town are reunited in the Sky Bet Championship; in Sky Bet League 1, Gary Johnson will pit himself against son Lee with Yeovil Town competing against Oldham Athletic over the course of 46 games; and two clubs with a rich history in The Football League, in Luton Town and Cambridge United, are back in Sky Bet League 2.

It's all set to begin early on Wednesday morning when next season's schedule of matches will be sent to the 72 League teams.

This will allow clubs to prepare their stories ahead of the 9am embargo, at which point the fixtures will be released.

Once the fixtures have been released, the first set of Football League matches to be televised live on Sky Sports will be announced.
