Sky Bet League 2 midweek preview

28 January 2014

AFC Wimbledon v Hartlepool United

AFC Wimbledon and Hartlepool United both picked up three points at the weekend ahead of their meeting on Tuesday night.

While the Wombles saw off Exeter City 2-1, Hartlepool ended a run of three successive defeats by beating York City 2-0.

Wimbledon are 11th but just a single point ahead of 14th-placed Hartlepool. The pair have only met once - in the reverse fixture earlier this season which Pools won 3-1 with goals from Simon Walton, Luke James and Matthew Dolan.

Bristol Rovers v Accrington Stanley

18th hosts 20th on Tuesday with Bristol Rovers welcoming the visit of Accrington Stanley.

Rovers recorded their third win in six on Saturday, beating Newport County 3-1, and that gave them a bit of respite at the bottom, moving four points away from the relegation zone.

Accrington are three points above the bottom two and won 2-1 at Cheltenham in their last outing. They have overcome Bristol Rovers in all of the last three meetings.

Dagenham and Redbridge v Southend United

Dagenham and Redbridge and Southend United will clash for the third time this season when they go head-to-head.

The 10th-placed Daggers hadn't got the better of Southend prior to this campaign, but they've beaten them twice this term, with a 5-2 success in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy coming before a 1-0 league victory.

Phil Brown's men come into this fixture after a 2-0 FA Cup loss to Premier League Hull City but they're unbeaten in six league outings. Dagenham are winless in three but will be buoyant after coming from three goals down to draw 3-3 with Sky Bet League 2 leaders Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

Southend's Ryan Leonard and Hull's Matty Fryatt battle for the ball in their FA Cup clash at the weekend

Exeter City v Oxford United

The post-Chris Wilder era begins for Oxford United with a trip to Exeter City.

Wilder chose to leave the sixth-placed U's to take over at Sky Bet League 2's bottom team Northampton Town, who sacked Aidy Boothroyd last month. Mickey Lewis has been named as caretaker manager, and he will be in charge for the club's visit to Exeter.

The Grecians have dropped to 16th after five defeats in six, while United have won their last two and lie sixth. The reverse fixture in October ended goalless.

Torquay United v Burton Albion

Two teams at either ends of the Sky Bet League 2 table clash at Plainmoor, with relegation-threatened Torquay United hosting fifth-placed Burton Albion.

The Gulls, who occupy a place in the bottom two, lost 1-0 at Oxford last time out to bring their mini revival to an end and they are two points from safety.

Burton also lost in their last outing, 4-2 against Fleetwood, but have recorded two wins in as many meetings with Torquay. They won the reverse fixture 2-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.

Wycombe Wanderers v Portsmouth

Wycombe Wanderers and Portsmouth come together for just the third time on Tuesday night.

The Chairboys are yet to lose to Pompey, winning 3-1 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy before a 2-2 draw in the reverse Sky Bet League 2 game at Fratton Park.

The pair are in the mix at the wrong end of the table with Wycombe 19th on a torrid run of one win in 13. Portsmouth are down in 21st, three points above the bottom two after drawing four of their last five, with the other match ending in defeat.

York City v Chesterfield

York City and Chesterfield will meet for the 87th time when they clash at Bootham Crescent.

The travelling Spireites, who are second, two points off the summit, hold the upper hand in the historical head-to-head record with 37 wins, compared to York's 23, with the other 26 ending level.

Chesterfield were away from home on Saturday, collecting three points at Northampton Town with a 3-1 victory. The mid-table Minstermen suffered a 2-0 reverse at Hartlepool United after conceding two late goals.
