We look ahead to the Semi-Final first legs of the Capital One Cup
A place in the Capital One Cup Final at Wembley is firmly in the sights of the four remaining teams, as the semi-finals get under way this week.
On Tuesday at 7:45pm, Sunderland and Manchester United lock horns at the Stadium of Light, followed 24 hours later by Manchester City against West Ham United at the Etihad.
The Black Cats sit at the foot of the Premier League table but defied the odds to dramatically see off Chelsea 2-1 in the quarter-finals, to set up their tie with United, who come into the semi-final first leg following a 2-1 defeat by Swansea City in the FA Cup.
West Ham are one point and one place above Sunderland in the table and, like United, lost in the FA Cup last weekend, against Nottingham Forest. They were defeated 3-1 by Man City when the pair met in the Premier League in October, and that extended their winless run against the second-placed side to seven matches, stretching back to March 2009.
Manuel Pellegrini's men were 3-1 victors against Leicester City in the quarter-finals and have won all four of their league games since. The Citizens have been victorious in 13 of their 14 home matches this season, their one defeat coming against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
