Millwall manager Ian Holloway names former Lion Marc Bircham as first-team coach

15 January 2014

Millwall manager Ian Holloway has named former Lion Marc Bircham as first-team coach.

The 35-year-old began his playing career at The Den as a midfielder and made 121 appearances before moving to QPR, where he played under Holloway, in 2002.

Bircham ended his playing days at Yeovil and has since been youth and development squad coach at Loftus Road, but he is moving back across London to link up with Holloway once again.

"I had a great job at QPR and there are only two reasons why I would give that up, Millwall and Ian Holloway," he told the club website.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for me and a very exciting time for the club.

"There's a lot of hard work to be done, but Ollie is a great manager and I just couldn't turn down the chance to work with him again."

Bircham will work alongside club legend Neil Harris, who was in caretaker charge after Steve Lomas was sacked and has now reverted to his role as Under-21s coach.

Holloway has also brought in veteran Scottish coach Des Bulpin from Crystal Palace to complete his backroom team.
