Chambers makes U's switch

York winger Ashley Chambers has joined Cambridge on a permanent deal until the end of the season.

Cambridge, currently second in the Skrill Premier, have the option of a further 12 months on Chambers, 23, who played a key role in the Minstermen's return to the Football League at the end of the 2011/12 season.

"We would like to sincerely thank Ashley for his huge contribution to the club and everyone at York City would like to wish him all the best for the future at his new club Cambridge United as they battle for the Conference title and promotion back to the Football League," read a statement on York's official website.

Chambers arrived at Bootham Crescent initially on loan in November 2010 and scored 23 goals in 140 appearances for the club.

The former England C international scored the equaliser in the Conference play-off final at Wembley against Luton in 2012 which York went on to win 2-1.

Chambers has made 18 appearances for the Minstermen this season without scoring.
