Dutch winger Sidney Schmeltz has left Oldham Athletic after having his contract terminated.
The 24-year-old made 20 appearances for Latics but has not been part of Lee Johnson's thinking since December, when he joined fellow Sky Bet League One club Shrewsbury on loan.
Before Christmas Oldham boss Johnson admitted he was considering parting ways with Schmeltz and that has now come to fruition.
"Sidney was a nice character to work with but sadly he didn't make the impact everyone was hoping for," Johnson said on the club's official website.
"I want to thank him for all his efforts during his time with the club and I wish him all the best for the future."
Schmeltz revealed he was looking forward to returning to the Netherlands to be with his family.
He added: "My time with the club was amazing from beginning to end. It was a great bunch of lads, good staff and it's a family club. Everyone took care of me and we part on good ways.
"If I'm around, I'll come back here with a smile on my face. I'm now going to go back to Holland but I'm definitely staying in football. I can't wait to see my little daughter and then I'll see what happens."
