Sheffield Wednesday sign Leon Best

14 February 2014

Sheffield Wednesday have snapped up striker Leon Best on an emergency loan deal from Blackburn Rovers until March 12th.

The 27-year-old will stay with Wednesday for 28 days and will boost their striking department following the recall of Connor Wickham to Sunderland last month.

Best, who has a Premier League hat-trick to his name with Newcastle in 2011, will be available for selection for Saturday's FA Cup fifth-round tie with Charlton at Hillsborough.

It is his third loan spell at the club, having made five appearances whilst scoring twice during the 2005-06 campaign.

Meanwhile, the Owls have confirmed that midfielder Stephen McPhail has left the club and joined Shamrock Rovers.

The 34-year-old was signed by former boss Dave Jones and was out of contract at the end of the month.

"I've really enjoyed my time with Sheffield Wednesday, it's a fantastic club and it was a pleasure to play for them," McPhail told the club's website.

"I've only been here for a few months but I really felt part of the place and I wish everyone at the club nothing but the best."
