Kevan Hurst pens new deal at Southend United

28 February 2014

Southend United midfielder Kevan Hurst has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

The 28-year-old, who arrived at Roots Hall on a free transfer from Walsall in June 2012, has committed himself to the Shrimpers until the summer of 2016.

The former Scunthorpe United and Carlisle United midfielder is keen to help Phil Brown's side win promotion to Sky Bet League 1.

"The club is only going to keep moving forwards under the gaffer, he's been absolutely terrific since he came to the club," Hurst told the club's official website.

"I've said all along that I wanted to remain with Southend United and I'm over the moon now that it has all been agreed.

"Having been here nearly two years, I've really settled in the area, and I've always had a really good relationship with the fans.

"I want to help this club progress and get into League 1. That's what everyone here wants and I believe it's possible."
